The recent EU Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) changes introduced in July have made importing stainless steel, engineering steels, aluminium, nickel alloys and other specialist engineering materials significantly more complex.

EU import quota allocations have been reduced by up to 70% in some cases, while the duty on materials imported outside quota has increased from 25% to 50%.

These latest changes have added another layer of uncertainty across the metal supply chain. Combined with the administrative demands and costs associated with CBAM for non-EU materials, importing engineering metals has become increasingly challenging. With reduced quota availability disappearing quickly each quarter and the potential for 50% import duties, the risks for importers have never been greater.
